Now this one is a REAL jigsaw puzzle! A lady gave me this bike in exchange for an outdated computer. You can see the shape it was in when I got it. The engine had locked up from sitting so long. I finally got the engine put back together. After I freed the piston from the cylinder wall, I had to lap the valves. It seems to have good compression now. I also had to take the spark advance mechanism totally apart and wire-wheeled it. It was rusted solid! Just for good measure, I sprayed the head and cylinder with flat black. I re-sprayed a couple of other pieces that were showing their age, and I am tried to polish the engine casing. I also stripped and repainted the frame. After all that, it was running great. Then I loaned it to a friend. Big mistake... When I got it back it didn't have any spark. I had a lot of things going on at the time so this got put on the back burner. That's where it sat for a couple of years. By the time I got back to even looking at it, I didn't care enough to fix it again. It was stripped and sold for parts. Oh well, it was fun - both repairing it and riding it. Copyright 2003 by Derek Tombrello |
